Things To Do

Bremerton Naval Museum Bremerton Naval Museum
130 Washington Avenue; one block from the Washington State Ferry Terminal. Established in 1954 by Rear Admiral Homer N. Wallin, the museum displays the history of the United States Navy. Everything Navy, from models to memorabilia, is found in this extensive collection. Open year round. 360-479-7447
The Marine Science Center
18743 Front Street NE, Poulsbo. Nine touch tanks provide visitors an up close and personal experience with a large variety of native marine animals. 100 species of local marine plants and animals may be viewed in eleven glass aquaria. There is even a permanent microscopic education station where visitors can examine plankton and life found in mud from Liberty Bay. A special feature of the Center is the Giant Pacific Octopus housed in a new 300 gallon aquarium. Admission fee. 360-779-5549
Naval Undersea Museum
Accessible by Ferry from Bremerton or take Highway 3 to Route 308 and follow signs to Keyport and the Museum. A combination of marine science, naval history, and undersea technology provides an exciting and motivating experience for visitors. The history of human enterprise under the sea is represented in the collection and interpretation of vintage Navy objects. Open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from October through May. Admission is free. 360-396-4148
Elandan Gardens
3050 West State Highway 16, on the waterfront in Gorst. Considered the finest bonsai collection in the West, the Elandan Gardens house trees over one thousand years old. Visitors can walk the shores of Puget Sound among 2.5-acres of rhododendrons and Japanese maples or visit the Sculpture Garden and Elandan Gallery. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a bald eagle screeching overhead! Open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Closed Mondays and the month of January. 360-373-8260
Hood Canal / Theler Wetlands
Located near the Mary E. Theler Community Center, East 22871 Hwy. 3, Belfair, where the Union River meets Hood Canal. The Theler Wetlands is divided into five areas: dike, complex forested freshwater marsh, filled field, open freshwater marsh, including two ponds, and a salt marsh. Visitors can utilize the 3.8-mile wheelchair accessible, barrier free trail system to experience the different wetland ecosystems and their inhabitants. The trail system is open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, 365 days a year. 360-275-4898
Kitsap County Historical Museum
280 4th Street. Life-size re-creations of 1800’s pioneer settlements, as well as photos and documents through World War II can be found at this museum. 360-692-1949
Bremerton Marina
The Port of Bremerton’s Marina provides public access to the harbor. Visitors can walk the 500-foot handicapped-accessible recreational breakwater, or catch a passenger ferry to Seattle or Port Orchard.
Concerts on the Boardwalk
At the Bremerton waterfront. Surrounded by a panoramic view of water, evergreens and Mt. Rainier, visitors are treated to live music performances on six consecutive Friday nights from mid-July to mid-August.
Blackberry Festival
Located on Bremerton’s two-block overwater park, next to the Bremerton ferry terminal. Bremerton’s largest annual event is a major end of summer extravaganza. Blackberries are represented in pies, cobbler, jams and jellies, t-shirts and other specialty items. Free live entertainment is ongoing. Visitors can also enjoy a classic car show, Tour de Kitsap bike ride and the Berry Fun Run. Children will be attracted to the pony rides, inflatable mazes, train rides, chalk art and special entertainment.
Bremerton's DowntownBoardwalk
Visitors at Bremerton’s Downtown Boardwalk are greeted by dozens of granite plaques and commemorative bricks inlaid in concrete. Many of the granite plaques are memorials to departed loved ones or commemorate Navy warships that served during World War II. Engraved clay bricks serve as memorials to family members or celebrate significant events.
Washington State Ferries
801 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA. Visitors can ride the Seattle-Bremerton ferry on a sightseeing adventure over sparkling waters. Views of snowcapped mountains, cityscapes, salt air, and whale watching are all part of the journey. Or choose from ten different routes throughout the Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. 206-464-6400
Navy Shipyard / Mothball Fleet Harbor Tour
In Port Orchard at 110 Harrison Avenue. A 45-minute tour allows visitors to see one of the largest concentrations of modern and mothballed aircraft carriers, battleships, nuclear submarines, cruisers and other types of warships in the country. Tour boats depart hourly from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, May through September; hourly from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, October through November and March through April; and hourly from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the Thanksgiving and Christmas and holidays. 360-377-8924 - Will pick up at the USS Turner Joy Pier in the summer.
USS Turner Joy (DD-951)
On the Bremerton Boardwalk. Visit a Forrest Sherman-class destroyer famous for its involvement in the Tonkin Gulf incident off the shores of Vietnam. On board is a POW Memorial: a replicated cell from the Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton) in Vietnam. Admission fee. 360-792-2457
The Spring Thing
